Where do you go to eat when you’re in upper Dauphin County and it’s about time for lunch? The answer used be be R & K Diner outside of Elizabethville, PA. But there is a vegetable market in that building now … the diner is gone. So on the way back to Harrisburg we come to the square in Millersburg and see the Wooden Nickel Restaurant. Not a new name but I was thinking it was off the beaten path somewhere … not on the square of town.
It must be about 95 degrees and we find a place to park in the shade across the street. I’m in the mood for something simple like a cheeseburger and fries. Even though they have an extensive menu and a list of specials I skipped my gluten free interrogation and stick to my original thought – a cheeseburger medium well. A pickle and potato chips came with the meal.
The cheeseburger was one of the best I’ve had in a long time. Of course I didn’t get the bun or roll with the meat. It was done the way I like it … packed with flavor. I should have asked who made the potato chips they had a nice home-style flavor. I’ll have to put this on my “take my wife” list. Not a table cloth restaurant that I saw but the food was really good and the waitress was pleasant. It’s about a half hour drive from Harrisburg on Route 147.
